Terrible experience at Tony & Guy…

Terrible experience at Tony & Guy Colchester salon recently. Would never recommend to my friends and will never be going back. I chose Tony & Guy thinking that the quality would be superior to other salons and I thought - as I was getting a complex colour, balayage - it was worth paying a bit more to ensure that I got the best quality and treatment. I couldn't have been more mistaken! Good: The salon manager agreed to have me back in to fix the colour the next day. Bad: absolutely everything else, and still didn't get the look that I went in for: Where to start? I went in for a blonde balayage on virgin medium brown hair. I explained exactly what I wanted and showed pictures. I explicitly said that what I didn't want was a stripy effect of brown-blonde-brown-blonde often seen in highlights. Well, the stylist starts applying foils. I was a bit anxious of her application technique as I always used to have a blonde balayage a couple of years ago before I got a short pixie crop and grew my hair out in my natural colour; the stylist I had back then would hand paint the bleach on free style and then brush it up to blend it into the darker hair, but the stylist at Tony & Guy was hasty in applying bleach in foils and seemed to just slather large sections with no blending. She then, after applying about a quarter head of foils informed me that she needed to "go and finish her other lady" - she then disappeared and came back over half an hour later. The whole time I was sat there fretting about my hair over developing and becoming damaged- this anxiety stayed with me for the rest of my appointment. By the end of it all, the first foils she put in had been in my hair for over 2 hours - no surprises that these parts of my hair turned out WHITE. When the bleach was washed out I couldn't believe it. She had done exactly what I asked her not to! I had thick inch-wide stripes of blonde, brown, blonde brown. The dye was pasted around haphazardly giving a patchy uneven affect and leaving me with harsh lines from my natural colour to the blonde. I go with a balayage to avoid the harsh lines between brown and blonde when growing my hair out between dying so to start out with these harsh lines was the last thing I wanted. I was so upset after planning to get my hair coloured for over a year and saving up £180 to go to a more expensive salon to ensure a good result, my hair was ruined. As a full time student I don't earn a lot and this was a big deal for me! The manager offered me to go in and have my hair corrected the next day, but the stylist wasn't able to create the balayage look I was after because they were limited in what they had to work with due to the way the previous stylist had left my hair, so I now just have an orange-yellow blonde all over and will have to wait for it to grow out before going to another salon to have it fixed and a more balayage look created. My hair is over-processed, frizzy, and white in patches. I'm devastated. The stylist who first coloured my hair clearly doesn't know what balayage is, and needs sending off on training on how to do more complex colouring, and on how to treat customers and not to leave someone with a quarter head of foils in to go and finish another customer's hair before coming back to finish putting foils in - this isn't the treatment you expect when going to a quality salon. I expect that when the stylist is applying bleach to my hair they will only be focused on that and not going back and forth between other customers and me. I went to Tony & Guy expecting the best quality and treatment and what I got was the opposite - I could have got the same effect from bleaching my hair at home for a fraction of the cost and with none of the stress or upset.I will never visit another Tony & Guy store and would recommend all of my friends never to risk it. I wish I could upload photos here because you honestly would not believe the difference between the style I asked for and the colour I was left with after my first visit. Unbelievable! Wish I hadn't wasted my money.

Really So very upset upset with hair cut

Really upset with hair cut. After growing my hair out for two years I decided to go back to T&G Chelmsford as I thought by paying more money I would get an excellent cut. How very wrong was I. Hair completely hacked, I went back and the person that cut my hair did some more cutting. Just didn’t look right. So sad. Having it recut at another salon tomorrow, will obviously lose the length that I spent two years painstakingly growing for years but hey ho nothing else I can do unless I want to walk round looking stupid with a hacked 90s cut.

AVOID T&G BIRMINGHAM, UK

My appointment was on Friday 23 April 2021 and the balayage was very disappointing. There was minimal difference in my hair and the pictures speak for themselves - I'm not sure how to attach them? I was charged an additional £60 unknowingly, totalling £190. Apparently this was for toner & Wellaplex that I was told were being used, however I was not informed that they would come at an additional cost which is against my consumer rights: the right to be informed. Had I known, I would have been more than happy to pay these costs however I feel very misled here. The stylist in question has since lied about this. Apparently as the prices on the website say 'from' they are allowed to charge whatever they like without discussing this first. Following a complaint, the Birmingham district manager was EXTREMELY RUDE to me. She began the conversation by requesting that I email her directly from now on to avoid the emails going to head office - an immediate red flag. She then continued to speak to me in a very condescending and patronising tone, and made the following comments: "we have recently reopened and have had a number of clients come in and out of our stores and no one else has said they they weren't informed of the difference in price." When asking her to simply look into the matter further she said: "I'm not going to do that because the outcome won't change and I don't want to waste any more of your time here". It was very clear my concerns were not being taken seriously. When I told her that the conversation was making me increasingly more annoyed after 15 minutes of going backwards and forwards with the tone she was using, she then stated "you are feeling annoyed because you're not getting the answer that you want". I feel that these comments are very unprofessional and damaging when trying to resolve a complaint. If anything, they have given me basis to complain further. I do not dye my hair frequently as I do genuinely worry about damage to my hair. T&G have stated that "The salon have confirmed no damage was caused or would be caused to your hair as your hair is in very good condition and they did provide the service you had requested and again would like to resolve this for you". They also stated that "a Balayage service will not cause further damage to your hair and with the complimentary Wellaplex which is a bonding treatment , this helps to prevents damage and makes the hair smoother and shinier whilst keeping the bonds protected. Damage to the hair can happen if the hair is very weak and porous, the salons are professionals, as they have assessed your hair, they know the quality of your hair and how much your hair can take. As your hair is in very good condition, they would be able to provide this service with a positive outcome." As a matter of fact, bleach (which is part of the Balayage process) is damaging to hair and it does leave hair significantly weaker with many side effects. I sat with bleach in my hair for 1 hour to the point that it went blonde however disappointingly the final result was very similar to my hair originally as it still contained many red/brown undertones. I have already noticed that my hair is weaker, much more brittle and harder to comb through after washing following the initial treatment. Worryingly, T&G have implied with their comments that bleaching my hair will cause no further damage. This experience has caused me a huge amount of stress to the point that I now feel very anxious about visiting another Toni & Guy salon again in the future. I believe this could have simply been avoided if the situation had been handled delicately by the district manager in the first place. T&G have offered another Balayage however I have lost all confidence, trust and respect for the organisation. Upon receiving my complaint they stated that "the Birmingham salon is a Franchise Partner and therefore the Franchise Partner is responsible for matters such as this. Head Office can offer hairdressing support where necessary but beyond that we can do no more. The salon is a franchise and therefore a completely separate company."The only reason I chose this salon was due to the Toni & Guy name, however I urge you NOT to pay if you are unhappy as the customer service is shocking.

Unfortunately I won’t be returning

Unfortunately I won’t be returning. For a salon experience that costs £225 I would expect a better level of service. I was advised to come for a skin test, the receptionist advised it had to be 48 hours before so booked me in on Thursday evening. I travelled an hour for this appointment. My appointment came on Saturday and I received a call Saturday morning from the same person who booked my skin test 1 hour before to check I had my skin test, which I confirmed I had. They then preceded to advise the skin test had to be 48 hours before (EXACTLY) which of course it wasn’t by around 7 hours. I had to really push to get them to proceed with my colour but they refused to apply a toner? Despite the difference in time being 4 hours once I had my colour finished... computer says no moment, common sense left the building. I was charged £225 for a full head colour, no blow dry, no cut. They charged me extra for more foils. Note to the salon owner, from a customer service perspective one would perhaps advise a small discount or maybe not charging for extra foils due to the inconvenience. I didn’t even get an apology. Also make sure you hydrate because you are not allowed to drink anything either. I was told I had to drink my last sip of coffee outside because no drinks are allowed in the salon. I understand there is a pandemic but seriously? I can’t even finish my own drink at a station 2 metres away,

Very poor customer service back from a…

Very poor customer service back from a visit in November. The appointment was booked through the online system. I was then contacted to move my appointment as the online booking system clashed with their appointments. I then had foils in my hair and had a heated lamp popped on which kept smashing into my head and to top it all off, the itemised invoice had the incorrect charges on it. Charged an extortionate amount for having the most senior stylist and received the poorest service. Never again will I visit Toni & Guy.
